What to look for, and how to pick the right property for your journey

Deciding where to stay near the Ngorongoro Crater is a real trade-off between view and value. Lodges on the rim offer dramatic, often unbeatable crater views from your room, but every one of them requires the same daily descent and climb back up to reach the crater floor for game drives, no matter how close your room looks in a photo. Properties set back in the highlands just outside the rim tend to cost noticeably less without giving up meaningful access. You're still near enough for an easy descent each morning, and you simply skip the premium attached to a literal rim-edge view. Whichever style you pick, book well in advance. It matters more here than almost anywhere else in Tanzania, because true rim-edge properties are limited in number and fill up faster than comparable ones elsewhere on the Northern Circuit. Contact us and we'll suggest specific properties that suit your budget and how much the crater view itself means to you.
