Safari days revolve around the hours when animals are actually moving. Game drives happen in the early morning and late afternoon, which deliberately avoids the harsh midday sun and glare, a time when much of the wildlife is resting regardless.
You'll ride in open-sided 4x4s with pop-up roofs. That means a clear, unobstructed outlook for both sightseeing and photos: for most sightings you stand up through the roof, with no small window to look through.
First-timers often don't expect this, but a good operator's most important job may be scheduling genuine rest between activities. Safari isn't a checklist to race through, and slowing the pace makes it better. Packing in as many activities as possible every day usually leaves people worn out, not happy.
