Photographer's Packing List for a Serengeti Safari
Photographer's Packing List for a Serengeti Safari
A real, practical guide from Map Adventure Safari
Photographers need to pack a little differently from other safari-goers. Top of the list is a camera bag that is truly dust-proof. This isn't optional: in the dry season, Serengeti roads throw up plenty of fine dust, and unprotected equipment will show the damage within days.
On most itineraries, extra batteries and memory cards deserve priority over another lens. Time for charging at camp is short, and a dead battery or a full card shouldn't cost you a sighting you may never see again. If you can only bring spares for one thing, pick power and storage rather than glass.
Keep a lens cloth and blower brush in a pocket you can reach quickly, instead of stuffing them into checked luggage. On safari, dealing with dust is a daily routine and not a one-time clean-up.
