Visiting Tanzania in December: Climate, Animals and Visitor Numbers
What a December safari in Tanzania is really like
In December the migration is generally drifting back toward the southern Serengeti and the Ndutu area, setting the stage for the calving season that follows in the new year. The weather is a real mix, with short dry spells alternating with rain showers, but conditions are usually manageable for a full day of game driving and rarely a serious obstacle.
Pricing is the thing to plan around. Rates climb through the holidays, especially in the last two weeks of the month, so travelers with flexible dates often find noticeably better value by booking in early December than over Christmas and New Year.
Early December is also a good window if you want to catch the first signs of the migration's return south, ahead of the crowds that turn up for the calving season in January and February.
