Visiting Tanzania in July: Climate, Animals and Visitor Numbers
What a July safari in Tanzania is really like
In the classic sense, July is the heart of migration season. This is usually when the Mara River crossings get going, with the herds pushing north out of the Serengeti toward Kenya's Maasai Mara. For exactly that reason, it ranks among the most requested months of the year.
Mornings are cooler and drier, which is ideal for an early game drive, so pack a proper layer for the start of the day even though the daytime heat in Tanzania doesn't change. The bigger practical issue is booking. July is one of the busiest months anywhere on the Northern Circuit, and camps close to the main crossing points are full well ahead of the month itself.
If a Mara River crossing is what you specifically want, July opens that window, but don't leave the planning until the last minute.
