Udzungwa Mountains National Park: Visitor Guide
A Complete Visitor Guide
People call the Udzungwa Mountains "the Galapagos of Africa," and the comparison holds up. Many of the plant and primate species living in this park are found nowhere else on Earth, and the number is unusually high. It's a very different Tanzania experience from anything on the Northern Circuit.
The main practical difference is how you explore. There's no vehicle game drive here. Udzungwa is a walking park where dense forest trails are the way in, and that changes both the pace and the kind of encounters you'll have: closer, quieter, and more about patient observation than covering ground.
That makes it a better match for hikers and keen naturalists than for travelers expecting classic open-plains game viewing. If you do want to swap vehicle-based wildlife spotting for forest trekking and rare endemic species, Udzungwa is one of the most rewarding places in Tanzania to do it.
Contact us and we'll talk through whether a walking-based park like Udzungwa suits what you have in mind.
