Overview
Five days, two Southern Circuit parks: Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park), one of Africa's largest protected wilderness areas, and Mikumi National Park, the southern park easiest to reach from Dar es Salaam.
Selous brings boat safaris on the Rufiji River in addition to classic game drives. Mikumi's open grass plains feel similar to the Serengeti, just on a smaller, more compact scale. Together they suit travelers who want Southern Circuit wildlife viewing without the more remote logistics of parks such as Ruaha or Katavi.
Our Mikumi guide and Nyerere guide have more on each park, or contact us to book this itinerary.

Day by Day (5 days)
On the first day of your safari, you are picked up from your hotel or the airport in Dar es salaam and set off for Selous Game Reserve. The distance is fairly long, so you have a picnic lunch en route or a hot lunch at the lodge. Arriving later in the afternoon, you go straight into the first activity of the safari, a boat safari on the Rufiji River at Selous Game Reserve. Later in the afternoon you return to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. Lunch box and dinner included.
Game drives and a boat safari on the Rufiji River fill the day, in one of the biggest protected wilderness areas in Africa.
Another day exploring different parts of Selous, with good odds of seeing wild dog alongside the more common plains game.
Once breakfast at the lodge/camp is over, we check out and cross the north of Selous on the way to Mikumi National Park. On arrival, we start our first game drive in Mikumi National Park and continue until later in the afternoon, when we drive to the lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight. Mikumi National Park has relatively little developed infrastructure, which makes the park even better, since it has kept the wilderness in its natural state for many years. If you wish, you can choose a walking safari guided by an armed ranger. Overnight at Camp Bastian or Matembezi Safari Lodge. All meals included.
After breakfast on this day, we carry on with game drives around Mikumi National Park, with the choice of game drives or a walking safari until noon. We then drive out of the park and back to Dar es Salaam, or fly back to Zanzibar Island. Breakfast and lunch included.
