Best Time to VisitDry season — elephants concentrate along the Tarangire River
✈
Getting There118km southwest of Arusha
When it comes to choosing accommodation, Tarangire has several practical points in its favor. First is price: camps here usually cost less than similar properties in the Serengeti, which helps you balance your total trip budget while keeping quality high.
During the dry season, favor properties near the river, where elephant viewing is at its best. Water dries up elsewhere in the park, so Tarangire's famous big herds collect along the river, and a river-facing room puts you where the action is most likely to happen.
A few camps in Tarangire also lead walking safaris right from the property. You won't find that everywhere in Tanzania, so ask about it if you'd like to explore on foot.
