Most Northern Circuit airstrips are joined by scheduled light-aircraft flights lasting less than an hour. Against the same journey by road, a flight can spare you an entire day of driving, which is a big gain on a short itinerary where each day counts. Driving brings its own benefit. You can spot wildlife on the way, and transfers between parks are not wasted time, because animal sightings from the vehicle are a frequent and welcome surprise. What you give up is time on unpaved roads, and over longer distances it really adds up. In practice, most well-built itineraries blend the two. Inside a park's own game-viewing area, where wildlife is the whole point, you drive. Between parks that are far apart, where the transfer has little to offer besides travel time, you fly. See our domestic flights guide, or contact us to plan the right mix for your itinerary.
