Overview
Island pace takes a little while to sink in, and four days on Zanzibar is enough for it. Picture warm turquoise water and white sand beaches, with every day yours to fill however you like, from snorkeling to wandering Stone Town to staying put in a beach chair.
The calendar counts for more here than many travelers assume. Expect heat and humidity from December through March. The long rains arrive in April and last until mid-June, which makes those weeks a poor choice for a beach trip. July and August are dry with a pleasant breeze, and October into November is a second good window ahead of the short rains. For the full picture, read our guide to the seasons on Zanzibar.
Flexibility is the point of this itinerary. Take it as a beach holiday on its own, or tack it on after a mainland safari, since Zanzibar is only a short flight from Arusha or the Serengeti.
