Overview
Built around migration season, this 7-day trip suits travelers who put wildlife photography first and want a real chance of seeing the herds on the move across Tanzania's Northern Circuit.
Late May, June and the middle of July are the best fit. In that window the migration typically moves through the western corridor toward the Grumeti River crossings, which are quieter and less crowded than the more famous Mara crossings later in the season.
Read our guide to the Grumeti River crossings for background, or contact us to book this itinerary around the current migration timing.

Day by Day (7 days)
Our driver will pick you up when you land at Kilimanjaro Airport and take you to Arusha town, where you spend the first night of this fantastic migration safari.
Overnight at Gran Melia Arusha Hotel.
Meal Plan: Full Board
Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a safari briefing from our expert, and then you drive to Tarangire National Park for an afternoon of game viewing. Its dry savannah makes it a good place to see animals and gives you an excellent chance of unique wildlife encounters.
Tarangire is best known for having the biggest elephants of all Tanzania's national parks, and for a savannah dotted with large “Baobab trees,” whose bark elephants naturally use as a source of water.
Spend the night at Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge
Meal Plan: Full Board
Start with an early breakfast and head to Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive on the crater floor, where animal numbers are high. In the late afternoon, drive on to Serengeti National Park for dinner and the night.
Ngorongoro’s caldera holds what may be the loveliest wildlife haven on earth. Rich pasture and year-round water on the crater floor support a resident population of about 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. The crater walls do not hold them in and they are free to leave; they remain because conditions suit them. As grassland covers most of the floor, grazers dominate: gnu, zebra, gazelles, buffalo, eland and kongoni (Coke’s hartebeest), and warthogs. The swamp and forest offer extra resources for hippos, some of Tanzania’s last black rhinos, giant-tusked elephants, waterbucks, reedbucks and bushbucks, baboons, and vervets.
You spend two more days on the Serengeti plains. During these drives you may see big groups of wildebeest grazing in the central Serengeti as they move toward the western corridor, their home ecosystem.
Spend the night at Ole Serai Luxury Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board
Another full day on the Serengeti plain. Across these two days of game drives, you can see large groups of wildebeest grazing in the central Serengeti as they head toward the western corridor of their ecosystem.
Overnight at Ole Serai Luxury Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board
After an early breakfast, depart for Karatu through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way you can stop at a Maasai Village for at least 30 minutes to experience the local tribe.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Oldean Mountain Lodge
Meal Plan: Full Board
Once breakfast at the lodge is done, set off on a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park.
Lake Manyara is among the greenest and smallest of the national parks in Northern Tanzania. This lush, dramatic park offers plenty of water, so you can look for aquatic birds as well as wildlife.
Later in the afternoon we drive to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport so you can catch your flight home or on to your next destination.
