Overview
Three days on Zanzibar pairs well with a longer safari elsewhere in Tanzania. It gives you enough time to shift gears from the bush to the beach without adding so many extra days that your overall trip becomes unwieldy.
A typical 3-day stay mixes both sides of Zanzibar's appeal. You spend time in Stone Town, the island's UNESCO World Heritage old town, known for its layered Swahili, Arab and colonial history and its famous carved wooden doors, and then devote the rest of the stay to real beach relaxation. It's a compact way to see the island's cultural side and its natural one.
This length suits the closing chapter of a longer trip especially well. After the early mornings and long drives of a safari, you get three nights of proper relaxation instead of heading straight home still running on safari time.

This full-day tour goes to Kizimkazi on the south-west coast of Zanzibar. You have a fair chance of watching them up close and personal.
Following breakfast, you walk around Stone Town for half a day and can shop. You eat lunch at a restaurant there, then head to the airport in the afternoon for your flight to Dar es Salaam and your international flight home.
HISTORICAL STONE-TOWN TOUR
Stone Town ranks among the oldest living Swahili towns in East Africa. Narrow, twisting streets give it a character of its own, and beautiful buildings, a few of them crumbling, line the way. Arab slave and spice traders founded it in the early 19th century, and today it is the cultural heart of Zanzibar.
